British educator is new head of prestigious New York Jewish school
Former assistant head at Carmel College Jonathan Cannon gets the top job at Ramaz in the US
A British education specialist, Jonathan Cannon, has become the new head of one of New York’s most prestigious Jewish schools, Ramaz.
Mr Cannon, who was formerly assistant head at Carmel College in the UK, was head of Carmel School in Hong Kong for a number of years before moving to America.
For 12 years he led a 1200 pupil Jewish day school in Rockville, Maryland, before stepping down in 2011 to start an education consultancy business, working with the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
He will be at Ramaz for just three years and will be involved in the search to find his own successor. But he said: “It is an honour and privilege to become part of this exceptional institution and help continue the Ramaz story of graduating respectful, well-educated and well-rounded students who contribute to the Jewish community and society as a whole”.
