Bursary launched by employment charity to support vocational training
Work Avenue's new scheme in memory of former trustee Richard Mintz will offer support for courses that can cost between £500 and £5,000
A new fund has been launched to help members of the community who want to undertake vocational training.
The Richard Mintz Bursary Fund, run by the community’s employment charity Work Avenue, will offer opportunities to get into professions ranging from plumbing and cyber security, to programming and interior design, for those who may struggle to afford the cost.
It will be open to those looking at short-term courses which leads to work, or programmes that support professional qualifications, which range from £500 to £5,000.
Created in memory of the late Richard Mintz, a former trustee of Work Avenue, applicants will also receive the charity’s support in finding the right courses.
Work Avenue CEO Debbie Sheldon added: “Richard was a role model to the community and a man who changed the lives of so many and made a real difference to this world. I am pleased that, through the Richard Mintz Bursary Fund, his legacy will live on.
“Vocational courses help to provide the essential skills needed in today’s competitive workplace, boost the chances of finding employment or nurturing a successful business, and expand the potential choice of work.
“Such training provides the building blocks to earn a living with dignity and pride, a concept that encompasses Richard’s raison d’être of giving people the tools they need to help themselves.”
