Friends and family of a Bushey teenager have organised a charity football match at Borehamwood FC’s Meadow Park Stadium on 8 May to support him and the Teenager Cancer Trust.

Kit Chester-Canavan, 16, was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia an aggressive form of blood cancer in November 2025. The match will bring together players and local businesses for a special evening of sport in his honour.

Friends Ronnie Cooper and Frank Mordecai, captains of the charity teams, said: “Kit is one of our best mates and when he was diagnosed, we knew we had to do something meaningful. This isn’t just about football — it’s about showing up for him, supporting him through this fight, and bringing everyone together behind him. The response so far has been incredible and we’re so grateful to everyone getting involved.”

‘Kick for Kit’ aims to raise awareness of leukemia in young people, raising valuable funds and supporting Kit through his treatment journey.

Kit’s mum Amanda Chester said; “Leukaemia symptoms are hard to diagnose in young people. It can present similarly to the flu or a virus. I feel it’s important to raise awareness of this disease as Kit’s symptoms were initially missed. I want to make sure other parents are aware of what to look out for and when to push for further medical investigations.

“This event is about the power of friendship and a community coming together to support Kit through his journey whilst raising valuable funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity has been an amazing help to us throughout this process.”

Gates open at 5pm for a 6pm kick-off with special surprise guests expected to be announced closer to the event.
