Creatives shine at BFAMI ‘White Night’
British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel celebrate London and Tel Aviv creativity with photography exhibitions and music
The British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel (BFAMI) partnered with the Embassy of Israel, London to welcome 150 guests to an evening in celebration of Jewish Culture Month, an initiative launched by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
BFAMI mirrored the iconic ‘White Night’ cultural festival – a reference to Tel Aviv’s ‘White City’, a UNESCO world heritage site made up of thousands of Bauhaus style buildings. The event, held on 3 June in central London, was held to celebrate the talented creatives that reside both in Britain and Israel.
Dedicated to building cultural bridges between both countries, the charity supports art museums in Israel as well as their broad art education programmes. These include engaging with women at risk, displaced communities, children and the elderly, as well as interfaith museum visits and mobile museums for those who unable to come to the sites.

The event featured photography exhibition ‘New New Horizons’ by recent graduates from Israel’s leading art colleges and curated by Doron von Beider. There was also a pop up shop with creatives selling their products, authors selling their books and a secondary exhibit, ‘Iron Lens’ curated by Sarah Blum which incorporated works by leading photographers, including Chen G. Schimmel, Shahar Dekel and Blake Ezra.
Attendees enjoyed performances by Shira Kravitz and Tommy Blu, Israeli musicians based in London, followed by a welcome speech by BFAMI co-chair Pamela Crystal, who emphasised the importance of celebrating British and Israeli creatives, especially at a time when significant attempts at cultural boycotting are being made.
