I’m told the building set alight is the back of Kosher Kingdom, a kosher supermarket.
At the moment it is believed this may be an electrical fault. pic.twitter.com/9bjm4JYADN
Firefighters are tackling a blaze which appears to have started behind supermarket Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received 56 reports of a fire on Golders Green Road at around 6.47am on Wednesday.
In a statement the LFB said: “The fire has occurred by a building which is three storeys, with a shop on the ground floor and premises above.
“The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and we’re advising people in the area to keep their windows and doors shut at this time.
“Please avoid the area whilst firefighters work to extinguish the fire.”
Some 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters from surrounding areas, including Finchley, Willesden and West Hampstead, were dispatched, the brigade added.
A number of road closures are in place, including on Golders Green Road near the junction with Beverley Gardens.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that officers are at the scene helping with road closures and evacuations.
They said: “At around 7am on Wednesday May 27, police were called by the London Fire Brigade who were responding to a fire in Golders Green Road, Barnet.
“Officers responded and are at the scene assisting firefighters with road closures and evacuations. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries.
“This is an ongoing incident with the focus on dealing with the fire and ensuring the safety of the public. It is too early to have determined the cause.
“We will provide further updates when we are able to.”
