For theatre director Sally Beck Wippman, the route to a career in the theatre world started in a very unusual way.

“I was seven years old and went with my two sisters to learn Irish dancing in our hometown of Chicago,” said Sally. “We were the only three Jewish girls in the class but the minute I started dancing, I realised I had found my vocation. I just loved performing and the world of theatre!”

And it’s a career that has taken her all over the world. Sally trained in the USA, Italy, France, Ireland, Russia and Indonesia before coming to study in the UK where she has now made her home and works as a theatre director.

Now London-based Sally is directing Like Mother at The Golden Goose Theatre as part of Family – a two-night writing showcase featuring six scenes by promising writers who previously took part in Golden Goose scratch nights. Each writer was given carte blanche to create two scenes in response to the theme of family.
This project is a creative experiment, an opportunity to explore new artistic collaborations and celebrate returning ones.

Like Mother is on 1 and 2 December at The Golden Goose Theatre on Camberwell New Road. goldengoosetheatre.co.uk
