German sausage museum ‘definitely won’t build’ at site of ex-concentration camp
After being slated for planning a move to former satellite of Buchenwald camp, German Bratwurst Museum says it will reconsider
A German sausage museum will not move to the site of a former Nazi camp for slave labourers after news of the plan triggered strong criticism.
The German Bratwurst Museum was slated to move to an area on the outskirts of the town of Muehlhausen that was once a satellite site for the larger Buchenwald concentration camp.
The plan had drawn criticism from a number of people, including Jewish leaders.
Uwe Keith, head of the association that operates the museum, told Bild newspaper that “we definitely won’t build there”.
He told news agency dpa that the group had only discovered the site’s history on Wednesday and will launch a “complete re-evaluation”.
It had been offered the site by a private investor who bought it from the German government in 2008.
