Community call to action secures supplies for Ukraine Pesach appeal
Hampstead Garden Suburb shul partners with the social action organisation to provide 200+ strong volunteer-led collection hub
More than a thousand donors and 200 volunteers have sent 24 tonnes of vital Pesach supplies to Ukraine to support the Jewish Relief Network in the war-ravaged country.
Following a personal request by the Rabbi and Rebbetzin of Lviv, Ukraine’s sixth largest city, GIFT, in partnership with the Orthodox Union and JRoots, collected essential items at a central hub provided by Hampstead Garden Suburb synagogue (HGSS).
Teams of volunteers, including a group of Project Impact teenagers and Young GIFT young professionals sorted, packed items and loaded goods on trucks in an appeal also supported by Bushey Synagogue, Ner Yisrael and Hasmonean Primary school.
Katherine Isaacs, HGSS vice chair, who spearheaded the collection said: “I am so pleased that all the pieces of the puzzle worked together and that it was a success. Thank you GIFT, for coming to us with this project. I am delighted HGSS was there to help.”
The donations will be distributed to more than twenty Jewish communities in Ukraine that have no access to kosher for Pesach food products. The initiative will provide a lifeline for these communities, making it possible for them to celebrate Passover with dignity.
