Jewish charity signs deal with Pope to allow ‘youth encounter’ between faiths

An international Jewish education charity has signed a deal with Pope Francis to extend a programme that brings children from different societies, cultures and religions together.
World ORT announced that it had shook hands on an extension to the pontiff’s Scholas World Youth Encounter, which will allow a huge “youth encounter” to take place in Mexico City later this year.
The charity is expected to facilitate the attendance of around 60 ORT students from countries including from Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Israel and Argentina, the pope’s country of birth.
“We are very excited to work again with Scholas at the World Youth Encounter,” said World ORT’s Dario Werthein. “We share a common goal: to create a collaborative environment and promote lifelong education to achieve the socio-economic development of the young students.”
The charity’s Avi Ganon said World ORT and the Pope wanted to “promote universal values such as tolerance between religions and understanding between people”.
