Israeli-Arab woman convicted for trying to join ISIS
The 44-year old teacher from the northern town of Shfaram tried to join the terror group, who are leaving a trail of destruction across the Middle East
Israel has sentenced an Arab woman to just under two years in prison for trying to join Islamic State.
Iman Kanjo, 44, a teacher from the northern Arab town of Shfaram, was sentenced at Haifa’s district court.
The woman, who is a mother of five, was also fined 30,000 shekels (just under £6,000), after she tried to cross the Turkish border into Syria, in order to join Isis.
More than 40 Israeli Arabs have joined the Islamic State in the last two years according to Israel’s security agency Shin Bet.
Israel faces a threat from the terror group from its northern border with Syria and its southern border with Egypt.
