Israeli consulate workers targeted in Boston
Flyers handed out at an anti-Israel rally with the names and pictures of three Israeli diplomats come just weeks after the murder of two Israeli embassy staff in Washington DC
Three Israeli consulate staff the north-eastern United States have reportedly had their names and photographs distributed on flyers handed out at an anti-Israel rally, weeks after an anti-Israel activist murdered 2 Israeli embassy staff in Washington DC.
According to a social media post from a video journalist for the Daily Wire, flyers were handed out at an anti-Israel rally held outside the Israeli consulate in Boston yesterday.
Language from the flyer identifies three individuals – Benjamin Sharoni, the consul general for New England, Irit Yakhnes, the Deputy Consul General and Erin Gubert, Director of Political Affairs.
The flyer claims that “Israel is committing genocide in Gaza”, citing Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reports.
“They spread war into Syria, Lebanon and now Iran…the people pictures above and other staff at the consulate work for the Israeli government. They advocate for laws to censor us. Their education initiatives obscure and cover-up their crimes. Their economic missions fund the genocide.”
The flyer goes on to exhort people: “Don’t work with them. Don’t help them. Tell them to leave Boston.”
While the flyer does not specifically advocate violence, it has been published weeks after two Israeli embassy workers in Washington DC were shot dead outside the capital’s Jewish Museum. The alleged shooter is reported to have shouted “free Palestine” and similar slogans as he was arrested.
In 2022, anti-Israel activists in Boston published what they called ‘The Boston Mapping Project’, which identified the locations of a wide range of Jewish institutions, identified as “Boston’s Zionist NGO circuit”, calling for these to be “dismantled”, and individuals connected with them to be “disrupted”. It is unknown whether those behind the 2022 project are also responsible for the latest flier.
