‘I’ve reflected. You failed. Please stand down,’ Margaret Hodge tells Corbyn
The MP took to Twitter after the Labour leader announced he would step down from the role after overseeing a 'period of reflection'
Newly re-elected Labour MP Dame Margaret Hodge has urged Jeremy Corbyn to resign after he announced he would oversee a “period of reflection.”
In his victory speech in his Islington North seat, Corbyn said he would not lead Labour at the next general election.
But he added: “I will discuss with our party to ensure there is a process now of reflection on this result and on the policies that the party will take going forward.
“And I will lead the party during that period to ensure that discussion takes place and we move on into the future.”
The Jewish MP for Barking and Dagenham, who received 27,219 votes, took to social media in the early hours of Friday morning to urge Corbyn to stand down.
She tweeted:”Corbyn talking about a period of ‘reflection’. I’ve reflected. You failed. Please stand down.”
Labour’s Ruth Smeeth made similar calls for Corbyn to resign after she lost her seat Stoke-on-Trent North to her Conservative rival Jonathan Gullis.
Smeeth said: “I have lost, I am no longer MP – this is a disaster. Jeremy Corbyn should resign now before his own count is in.”
