Jewish schoolboy allegedly punched outside Stamford Hill school in antisemitic assault
Police say 15-year-old boy and 35-year-old man were assaulted as woman remains in custody over alleged antisemitic attack
A visibly Jewish schoolboy was allegedly punched outside a Jewish school in Stamford Hill while being subjected to antisemitic abuse, in the latest reported hate crime targeting the north London community.
The incident took place at around 6.25pm on Sunday outside a Jewish boys’ school on Amhurst Park, Hackney.
According to Shomrim, a female suspect approached the child and allegedly assaulted him while shouting antisemitic abuse.
Emergency volunteers from the Jewish neighbourhood watch group responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported and contacted officers from the Metropolitan Police.
In a public appeal shared online, Shomrim said: “A female suspect punched a visibly Jewish school boy whilst shouting antisemitic abuse.”
The organisation confirmed the woman was later arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault.
Photographs released by Shomrim showed volunteers and police officers outside the school following the incident.
The group urged any additional witnesses or victims to come forward and assist the investigation, asking people to quote police reference CAD 5985/10MAY26 when contacting officers or Shomrim directly.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Amhurst Park, Hackney at around 18:30hrs on Sunday, 10 May following reports that a 15-year-old boy and 35-year-old man were assaulted.
“Officers arrived within minutes and arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. She remains in police custody.
“Neither victim required treatment for injuries.”
The alleged assault happened just hours after another reported antisemitic incident in nearby Clapton Common, where a man was arrested after allegedly attacking visibly Orthodox Jewish women with a belt at a bus stop.
Police said officers were called to reports of a man shouting at a group of Jewish people on Clapton Common, Hackney, at around 3.45pm on Sunday and responded within minutes before arresting a 64-year-old man.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Francis Achile, 64, of Kyverdale Road, N16, has been charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault by beating, racially aggravated harassment and racially aggravated assault.
He is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Shomrim said the suspect in that incident also shouted what it described as a “torrent of horrible” racial abuse and spat at one of its volunteers before being detained by members of the patrol group.
