Keir Starmer tells of being “inspired” by Jewish community’s values in Chanukah video
The Labour leader has marked Chanukah with the release of an online video with scenes filmed at South Hampstead Synagogue
Sir Keir Starmer has said he continues to be “inspired by the Jewish community” in Chanukah video featuring engagement with the community at South Hampstead Synagogue.
In the new online film Starmer says the story of the Maccabees and the values of “justice, dignity and freedom they upheld” are the same values he wants for the Labour Party.
As we mark this Chanukah, I offer my warmest wishes to all Jewish communities across the UK.

He also says that Chanukah is “a time of joy for family and community” adding that “in my house it’s also a time of doughnuts and chocolate coins.”
The Labour leader, who was filmed speaking to members of the local community during the recent Mitzvah Day, praises the Jewish community for “it’s many acts of compassion and kindness … it’s service to Britain.”
Starmer and his wife Victoria, who is from a Jewish family, live in the borough of Camden, in which South Hampstead shul is also situated.
