King Charles moves meeting with faith leaders to avoid Shabbat clash
The event at Buckingham Palace had been due to start at 6pm but officials realised it would make it difficult for the Chief Rabbi to attend
A landmark meeting between The King and leaders of various faith communities has been moved to ensure the Chief Rabbi can attend before the start of Shabbat.
Buckingham Palace changed the time of the meeting to 5pm unilaterally after realising that Ephraim Mirvis wouldn’t be able to take part and get home before the Shabbat begins just before 7pm. In a move described as an “amazing gesture” by his office, it will now commence at 5pm.
It’s believed Mirvis will be the only Jewish figure at the meeting at Buckingham Palace.
As Prince Charles, the new king has been at the forefront of promoting interfaith relations, for which he was honoured last year by the Council of Christians and Jews.
