Leading Israel advocacy group joins JLC
Ahead of centenary of the Balfour Declaration, the Zionist Federation is accepted onto the Jewish Leadership Council
The community’s leading body for Israel advocacy has spoken of its ‘delight’ at joining the Jewish Leadership Council.
The Zionist federation announced it has been accepted to the JLC this week, becoming the community organisation’s 33rd member.
Working as an umbrella for over 30 organisations and with more than affiliated 50,000 members, the Zionist Federation works across the UK and Ireland to support Israel and Zionism.
The announcement comes amid close work between the two bodies ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration in 2017.
Paul Charney, Chairman of the Zionist Federation said said the group “are delighted to have been accepted as a member.”
“The JLC represents a broad spectrum of causes and concerns, and from today that will also include the many Israel-supporting groups that we represent.
Adding that the group needs to “be working harder and smarter – and together” to fight delegitimisation of Israel and anti-Semitism masked as anti-Zionism, Charney added that they were “proud to be bolstering the voices of British Zionism within the Jewish community.”
Sir Mick Davis, the Chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council said they are “extremely pleased” to welcome them, adding that the JLC “are working to establish an infrastructure of activists and having the ZF on board will allow us to work alongside existing groups across the UK.”
