Mazal Magic: Israeli street food favourite wins again at British Kebab Awards
Camden eatery wins kosher shawarma category, co-founded by Jewish News, for second consecutive year
Camden-based eatery Mazal triumphed at the 14th British Kebab Awards on Tuesday 24 February at Park Plaza Westminster, winning the ‘best kosher shawarma’ accolade for the second year running.
Neta Nel Segev and Aviv Baum, chefs and co-founders of the three year old Israeli street food spot which offers shawarma, falafel and other Israeli dishes, triumphed in the hotly contested group. The kosher award was introduced in 2022 by Jewish News, in collaboration with entrepreneur Ibrahim Dogus.
Nel Segev said: “We are really delighted and happy to win this exciting title. We have the privilege of doing what we love doing on a daily basis and are grateful for everyone spreading the love, by coming and voting.”
Other finalists included Balady (Holborn), Bricky’s (Borehamwood), Celia’s Kitchen (Manchester), Grill on the Hill (Stamford Hill), La Fiesta (Golders Green), Pita (Golders Green), Reubens (Baker Street, London), Sababa (Borehamwood) and Yakov’s Kitchen (Edgware).
Launched in 2013, the honours champion the contribution of kebab restaurants and takeaways to the industry and local communities. Winners are chosen through public votes and a panel of judges.
With more than 1.3m kebabs sold daily across 20,000 outlets, the British kebab industry contributes an estimated £2.8bn annually to the economy.
