The UK Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities has paid a visit to the Jewish Learning Exchange (JLE) hub in Golders Green.

Minister Michael Gove engaged with the trustees as well as students and young professionals associated with the centre, understanding the JLE’s role in connecting young Jews with their heritage and the Jewish community.

Gove was particularly interested in the centre’s upcoming extension and upgrade plans. Following his tour of the JLE hub, Michael Gove had lunch with Rabbi Benjy Morgan, the CEO of JLE, and other patrons and educational directors of the organisation.

In this more informal setting, the conversation revolved around the issue of apathy among young Jews towards their communities and explaining the role that JLE can play in tackling this, fostering increased engagement, both socially and educationally.

Gove’s visit precedes JLE’s annual gala dinner, scheduled for the 4th of September and taking place at the House of Lords, hosted by Lord Mendelsohn. It will include a number of parliamentary and international guests in attendance and the Secretary of State is due to speak at the event

Rabbi Benjy Morgan said:“We were honoured to have Michael Gove visit our JLE hub and engage in such meaningful, encouraging discussions. His interest in our mission was inspiring. We look forward to continuing our efforts in fostering young leaders to make a positive impact on our community and the country as a whole. I can only thank everyone involved at JLE, from the patrons and trustees, to the other directors and all our staff and alumnus.”
