MP and refugee experts to address Ukraine Crisis South London Emergency Meeting

The MP for Putney and Southfields, Fleur Anderson, and historian Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman will be among the speakers at a unique Ukraine Crisis South London Emergency Meeting at Wimbledon Synagogue next Sunday.

The wider community is invited to attend the special event, which will take place both in person at the shul and on YouTube, from 5.30pm – 7pm on 3 April.

Panelists will give their insight into the current crisis in Eastern Europe and provide practical information on how community members can help refugees fleeing the Russian invasion.

It will also serve as a fundraiser for World Jewish Relief’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal, with cash going to support efforts both in Ukraine and neighbouring countries providing refuge.

Iryna Mushkina, a Ukrainian member of Richmond Synagogue, will give her inside views of the unfolding crisis in Ukraine, alongside writer and broadcaster Freedman who is also a member of Wimbledon, Emeritus Professor of War Studies at King’s College London and an inter alia member of the Chilcot enquiry,

They will be joined by Richmond Synagogue member Robert Bieber MBE, a former chairman of ORT which is pooling its donations during the Ukraine war to World Jewish Relief and Henry Grunwald OBE QC, President of World Jewish Relief.

Also speaking on the panel will be Sara Nathan OBE Co-founder and trustee of Southfields based charity Refugees At Home, who has personal experience of hosting numerous refugees from war-ravaged countries.

There is limited capacity at the venue, located at 1 Queensmere Road, Parkside, SW19 5QD, so attendees are required to register in advance by emailing office@wimshul.org. Light refreshments will be provided
