Nine girls celebrating their Batmitzvah year travelled to Israel last week on a parent and child trip, championing causes supported by the charity Myisrael, which helps vulnerable children and adults across the Jewish state.

The trip marked the first time in three years that the programme has taken place, due to the ongoing security situation in the country.

Over five days, participants, including eight mothers and one father, visited eight Myisrael causes, gaining direct insight into the lives of children, teens and adults receiving vital support.

The group visited Susan’s House, which empowers at-risk young people through creative vocational training, Ruca’s Farm, supporting IDF reservists living with PTSD and Click, which provides connection and care for elderly people, including Holocaust survivors.

Participants met beneficiaries, took part in project activities and saw that the psychological and social impact of war continues to affect vulnerable communities across the country.

Danni Franks, founder and chief executive of Myisrael, said: “Seeing these girls and their parents connect so deeply with the people and organisations we support was incredibly moving. They witnessed the strength of communities facing real challenges and the impact of grassroots support. To mark a Batmitzvah in this way – not only as a celebration, but through compassion and connection – is something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.’

Esther Lee, who travelled with her daughter Jessica, added: ‘This was truly the experience of a lifetime for both of us. Sharing these days with Jessica during her Batmitzvah year was beyond incredible. It strengthened her values and I can honestly say it’s made me a better person! It’s something we will carry with us forever.”
