Natasha Kaplinsky chairs WIZO women’s health event
Event in Hampstead brought together a panel of experts to discuss matters affecting women today
It may be a hair and beauty salon by day but one evening last week the beautiful Vakrat Salon in Hampstead played host to a panel of expert speakers chaired by Natasha Kaplinsky for an event put on by Wizo’s Women’s Professional Jewish Women’s Network.
Motivational speaker, podcast host and performance expert Emma Levy was joined by nutritionist Laura Southern, menopause expert Dr Rachel Hines and Dr Emily Simon, women’s health expert on menopause, contraception and psychosexual wellbeing for an frank, open and interesting discussion on some of the issues women face in their day-to-day lives and how to improve mental and physical well-being.
Naomi Greenaway, Deputy Head of Long Read Features at The Telegraph and voluntary Chair of the Women’s Professional Jewish Women’s Network, said: “I was genuinely moved by the response to the evening. The room was full of energy, and it was clear this was something people really wanted. Women are so often navigating their health alone, bombarded with conflicting information and not always sure who to trust.
“I wanted to bring together experts who could cut through that noise, and having so many brilliant minds in the room — both on the panel and in the audience — made for something really special.”
The event raised £3,000, with all proceeds going towards WIZO UK’s emergency rehabilitation fund. Established in the wake of October 7, the fund provides vital therapeutic support to a traumatised nation still grappling with the psychological aftermath of those horrific attacks. The scale of the impact cannot be overstated, and as a first responder, WIZO continues to meet the evolving and urgent needs of Israeli citizens.
Maureen Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of WIZO UK, said: “Since October 7, the scale of trauma facing Israeli citizens has been immense. Women have so often been the ones tasked with picking up the pieces during and after conflict — managing the home front, sustaining families, and helping to rebuild communities.
“WIZO is a first responder on the ground, delivering vital support to women when they need it most. At the same time, the event offered Jewish women here in the UK a space to come together, and to feel the comfort and strength of community — something we all need right now.”
