The countdown is on for one of the biggest dates in the Jewish communal calendar, with Maccabi GB preparing to welcome runners, families, charities and supporters for this Sunday’s Community Fun Run.

Taking place on Father’s Day, 21 June, the annual event will once again bring together people of all ages for a day of sport, entertainment, fundraising and community spirit.

With online registration closing at noon tomorrow, organisers are encouraging anyone still considering taking part to sign up before the deadline. Those who miss it will still be able to register on the day.

While the races remain at the heart of the event, visitors can expect far more than a morning of running.

More than 80 charities will be represented at the JLC Charity Fair, giving attendees the chance to meet organisations from across the community and learn more about their work. A community shuk will showcase Jewish-owned businesses, while a food court featuring kosher vendors will keep participants and spectators fuelled throughout the day.

Families will find plenty to enjoy away from the race routes, with arts and crafts, face painting, inflatables and children’s activities running throughout the event.

Community organisations will also be on hand with interactive displays, including a Hatzola ambulance, a police showcase, Kisharon Langdon’s SEND sensory room and Norwood’s sensory pod.

Live entertainment will add to the festival atmosphere, with performances from the Israeli Dance Institute, Vanessa Class School of Dance and the Rimon Jewish Primary School choir.

The event opens at 10am, with 10K, 5K and 5K walk participants called to the start line at 10.15am. The 1K event begins at 1pm.

For many, the Fun Run has become much more than a sporting event. It is one of the few occasions each year when charities, schools, communal organisations, businesses and families come together in one place, creating a uniquely Jewish celebration of community life.

As final preparations continue ahead of Sunday, organisers are hoping the community will turn out in force for a day of fundraising, friendship and fun. Whether taking on a 10K challenge, enjoying the 1K family route or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there will be plenty of ways to get involved. The event also offers a Father’s Day outing with a difference. On-the-day registration and spectator tickets will remain available for those making last-minute plans.

Online registration closes at midday on Wednesday. To sign up or find out more visit Maccabi GB’s Fun Run website.
