Robert Winston wins fourth Royal Society young people’s book prize
Famous TV professor wins over young audience with book of experiments which can be done from home
TV professor Robert Winston has won his fourth Royal Society young people’s book prize with Home Lab, a collection of scientific experiments done from home.
The judges, who were aged between six and ten, selected Winston’s latest book from a shortlist, making it four wins in 12 years for the London-born doctor and scientist, who was created a life peer in 1995.
In the foreward, Winston talks about how he got interested in science, saying: “What most interested me was doing my own experiments.”
He said he remembered the excitement he felt “when I realised that I could write secret messages using juice as an invisible ink. Seeing my words appear when I heated the paper was something I still find slightly weird and a bit of a thrill”.
