Theresa May pays tribute to Holocaust survivor Gena Turgel during PMQs
Prime Minister responds to question from Bob Blackman MP, saying 'we must never forget what Gena taught us'
Theresa May has paid tribute to Holocaust survivor Gena Turgel during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, in the ultimate accolade for the Belsen nurse who married one of her British liberators.
In response to a question from Conservative MP Bob Blackman in the House of Commons, May said: “We must never forget what Gena taught us. We must fight prejudice and hate in all its forms.”
Turgel, who lived in north London, passed away late last week aged 95. Her funeral service at Bushey Cemetery on Sunday was attended by hundreds of people.
Home Secretary Sajid Javid tweeted: “Very saddened to learn that Gena Turgel has passed away. I was so privileged to meet her. One of the most inspirational people I have ever met. RIP.”
