‘Vicious attack’ on eight-year-old Jewish boy in Stamford Hill
Child left 'traumatised' and required treatment in hospital after man 'attacked him from behind and beat him severely'
Witnesses have been urged to come forward after a “shocking unprovoked” attack on a young boy in Stamford Hill.
An eight-year-old has been left “traumatised” and required treatment in hospital after the incident, which has been reported to the police.
The Met Police told Jewish News they were called just after 7.30pm on Monday after an eight-year-old boy was assaulted in Stamford Hill..
They say the eight-year-old boy was approached from behind and punched in the chest, before being taken by his parents to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. No arrests, have been made, but they urge witnesses to contact them.
In a series of posts on Twitter, Orthodox neighbourhood watch group Shomrim reported that the unnamed boy “ran home & up all the stairs before collapsing. He was crying and couldn’t talk for the next 4.5 hours” following the attack.
Shomrim said that after being treated by volunteer ambulance service Hatzolah, the boy was “taken to hospital due to swelling and marks near his chest, neck, shoulder and face” .
The group added: “ The young boy described how a white man wearing gloves attacked him from behind, pushed him to the wall and beat him severely ”.
Calling it a “ shocking incident”, the group said it was supporting him and his family, as well as assisting with the investigation.
It added: “The boy escaped after 2 people came to his rescue & chased away the suspect. These are vital witnesses, we urge them to call 101 immediately”. The incident took place on Dunsmure Road, in Stamford Hill.
Speaking to Jewish News, Shaye Gluck from Stamford Hill Shomrim said: “This was a vicious attack on a young boy in broad daylight on a very busy residential street.
“This attack has affected this young boys life severely. He keeps on having flashbacks and goes into shock mode where he loses his speech again.
“It is unacceptable that children can no longer walk home from school safely.
“Shomrim volunteers have increased patrols in the local area and are scouring through hours of CCTV.”
