Activist who called JLM ‘Israeli Embassy proxy’ suspended from Labour
Asa Winstanley has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation.
The Jewish News understands that Asa Winstanley has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation.
Winstanley, who writes for the anti-Israel publication the Electronic Intifada, described the Jewish Labour Movement as an “Israel Embassy proxy” after the group called an extraordinary general meetings to debate whether to disaffiliate from Labour.
In a tweet, Winstanley said the JLM was responsible for carrying out “shameless sabotage of the party”, adding “this is what Israel terms ‘lawfare’.”
A Labour Party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.
“All complaints about antisemitism are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”
