A man who assaulted and abused a Jewish passenger on a Dublin bus has been released without charge, despite the entire attack being posted on social media.

The incident took place late on Friday evening. Footage filmed by the victim shows a visibly drunk man swaying on his feet, clutching a handrail and smiling as he launches into a tirade: “There he is. The Jew. They’re murdering. They’re murdering. They’re the genocidal Jews. Who is committing genocide? He is standing up for genocide.”

The Jewish passenger, who remains out of shot, was verbally abused, physically slapped and told he was identifiable “because of his face”.

Only one passenger, a lone Irish woman, intervened. She challenged the man, asking, “Is he? Did you ask him? Are we not better than this?” to which the Jewish victim replied, “No, you’re not.”

The attacker turned on her too, accusing her of being “a white woman standing up for genocide”, adding: “Look at the woman standing up for genocide.” She replied: “You’re being hateful.” The Jewish man, evidently familiar with such abuse, can be heard saying: “I get used to it, they are all like this.”

In a statement to Jewish News, a Gardaí spokesperson confirmed: “Shortly after 11pm, on Friday 18th July 2025, Gardaí from Rathmines responded to reports of a disturbance on a bus in Rathgar, Dublin 6. A male in his 30s was arrested at the scene under public order legislation. He was later released without charge.”
