Rabbi Andrew Shaw is stepping down as chief executive officer of pro-Israel charity Mizrachi UK after a ten-year tenure.

Under Shaw’s leadership, Mizrachi UK developed a new generation of religious Zionist rabbanim and rabbinic shlichim working in shuls and schools and established an annual Weekend of Inspiration bringing British and Israeli educators together. Other initiatives launched included Yehudi, a programme training the next generation of leaders, and the Simchat Torah Project, which brought together more than 500 shuls worldwide to dedicate Torah covers in memory of the victims of the 7 October 2023 attacks.

David Reuben and Aryeh Richman, senior leaders within the organisation, will now jointly take up the role of chief executive, with Rabbi Shaw continuing in a part time role as educational advisor.

The move was described as allowing Rabbi Shaw to focus on new initiatives in the UK and internationally, defined by Mizrachi UK as “efforts to help counter the rise in antisemitism through education, as well as projects helping strengthen Western values.”

Rabbi Shaw said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to lead Mizrachi UK over the last decade. I am stepping down with many of our transformational programmes firmly embedded as indispensable parts of UK Jewry. I look forward to supporting the charity in a new capacity and wish much hatzlacha to David and Aryeh as they continue the vital work of Mizrachi UK.”

Steven Blumgart, chair of Mizrachi UK, said: “Rabbi Shaw has been a remarkable and creative leader, guiding Mizrachi through a decade of growth as well as challenging times for both the UK and Israel. We are deeply grateful for his many years of service, and we look forward to the incredible things he will no doubt achieve in the years ahead”.
