Labour loses Salford council seat with 41 percent Jewish population
Kersal taken by the Tories after two decades with 42 percent of the vote compared to 27 percent for Labour.
Labour have lost a council seat in one of the most Jewish areas in the country.
Kersal in Salford, which was held by Labour for more than two decades, has a 41 percent Jewish population according to the latest census.
The Tories took the seat in yesterday’s by election with 42 percent of the vote compared with 27 percent for Labour’s candidate. An independent candidate too third place.
Questions are being asked about the impact of the anti-Semitism row on the result. It came just a day after Gerald Ronson, chair of the Community Security Trust, launched an outspoken attack on the Labour leader during the charity’s annual dinner.
