Watford fans launch Premier League’s first Jewish supporters group
The move was welcomed by former Israeli international, Liverpool, Tottenham and Watford player Ronny Rosenthal, who said it shows how football can be a “force for good.”
The first ever Jewish supporters club for a Premier League side has been launched by Watford FC fans.
The move was welcomed by former Israeli international, Liverpool, Tottenham and Watford player Ronny Rosenthal, who said it shows how football can be a “force for good.”
The Watford FC Jewish Supporters Group was established to provide a forum for Jewish supporters and allow dialogue with non-Jewish fans on issues such as antisemitism.
The former Israeli star said in a message to the new group, that: “he looked forward to seeing the group working with the club this season and other supporters groups to help create a more tolerant, diverse and caring society. Good luck to Watford.”
Tom Wyse, a fan, and a founder member of the group said: “With Watford returning to the Premier League, it is a very exciting time to be a fan.
“Watford has a very big Jewish fan base and is well known for its community work. it has undertaken impressive work when it comes to tackling anti-Semitism and supporting Holocaust Memorial Day, but we felt, it was time to establish a Jewish Supporters Group, not only to support the excellent work the club is doing, but to provide a Jewish voice with the club on issues of importance to Jewish supporters.”
