S&P Senior Rabbi Joseph Dweck will continue shaping Jewish education in the UK after his planned aliyah in January 2026, taking on a new academic post at the London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS).

Dweck – who has served as Senior Rabbi of the Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi Community for the past 11 years – has been appointed the Rabbi Levy Chair of Jewish Wisdom, ensuring he will keep teaching at LSJS, mainly online but also during visits back to London.

He has been Deputy President of the college throughout his tenure in the UK.

His new role honours Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy OBE, his predecessor both at the S&P and at LSJS, remembered as one of the community’s most beloved educators and leaders.

Dweck will give his inaugural lecture in November, titled It Was Meant to Be! – Can Divine Providence be found in every aspect of our lives? It will draw on Maimonides’ view of Providence as an evolving relationship rather than strict determinism, exploring faith, fate and the meaning we draw from our life stories.

Speaking about his future with the college, Rabbi Dweck said: “It has been such a privilege to have had the opportunity to teach and contribute to LSJS and I look forward to continue teaching and engaging with such a high-level institution.”

LSJS Chief Executive Joanne Greenaway praised his ongoing involvement, saying: “We are tremendously grateful for all Rabbi Dweck’s exceptional dedication to LSJS over the years and for his insightful teaching. He has been a remarkable asset to the UK Jewish community and we are so glad that he will continue to remain an invaluable asset to our college.”

Meanwhile, Amir and Rabbanit Tova Ellituv will become the new senior rabbinic couple for both the S&P Sephardi Community and Lauderdale Road Synagogue from January 2026, taking on the community leadership role as Dweck relocates.
