UAE’s first ambassador to Israel hopes to ‘foster peace and understanding’
Mohamed Al Khaja's sends first tweet in his new role, in Hebrew, English and Arabic, saying he hopes to promote 'prosperity among our people and across the region'
The United Arab Emirates’ first ambasssdor to Israel has announced his arrival to the post by taking to a new Twitter account to express his hopes of fostering peace across the region.
Mohamed Al Khaja, 40, was sworn in as the UAE’s first ambassador to Israel on Sunday. The UAE embassy in Israel has also joined social media, a month after it was approved by the country’s cabinet.
In his first post as the country’s ambassador, Ambassador Al Khaja said: “I look forward to strengthening ties between Emiratis and Israelis by fostering peace, understanding and prosperity among our people and across the region.” His account gained nearly 3,000 followers in a couple of hours.
Israel formally opened its embassy in the country in late January in Abu Dhabi.
It is the latest sign of increased diplomatic relations between the two countries, after the signing of the Abraham Accords in September.
Bahrain also joined the accords, which established ties with Israel, in a deal brokered by the-then Trump administration in Washington.
