Volunteers help raise £50,000 at UJIA Telethon
160 people across the UK help the Israel charity raise funds during their 'Super Sunday' event
Almost 160 volunteers from Jewish communities across the country helped raise £50,000 for Chanukah Appeal from UK-Israel charity UJIA this weekend in a Super Sunday Telethon.
In London, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow young and old manned the phones to raise money, with teenagers from 12 Jewish youth movements and organisations among those fundraising.
“I’m here because I’ve had so many amazing opportunities through BBYO and other Jewish Youth Movements and I want that to be the same for other people,” said 16-year old Sara Rich.
UJIA boss Michael Wegier said: “It’s heart-warming to see so many volunteers of all ages and backgrounds giving up their time to help us raise much needed funds for our community and our educational projects in Israel.”
Money from the appeal will help the charity pay for its Israel engagement activities as well as supporting vulnerable populations in Israel to have better opportunities.
